30 seconds with the videographer…

That’s all it takes to make your best marketing investment of the year…

…and hey, it’s cheaper than your morning latte.

This week’s tactic is one that’s actually a bit new for me.  But after a huge success, I think it’s time to share the methods I used to make a strategic relationship with my event’s videographer.

Here’s the backstory…

::Cue dramatic music and a slow pan-in of me shaking hands with a guy holding a giant camera rig.::

About one month ago, an event organizer posted a LinkedIn post with a highlight reel from their conference.  Thanks to my newly formed camaraderie with the videographer, I was featured pretty heavily.

Within about four hours of that post going live, I received THREE inbound inquiries.

I should mention that the event only has about 917 followers on LinkedIn, so the following isn’t massive.  And I know for certain that one of the inquiries was directly related to the video because they mentioned it in their note.

I can’t be absolutely certain the other two inquiries were a result of the video, but I have a pretty good hunch the organizers were at least reminded of my work from the reel.

So, three immediate inquiries from a 30-second video is pretty amazing, right?! I mean, if only my workouts gave results that fast.

Now, it’s time for you to stop walking past that videographer and give them some of your well-deserved attention.  Here’s why…

Why This Tiny Tactic Packs a Massive Punch

First, this method works so well because it reaches the exact target market you’re going after… event organizers and referral sources.

These clients use highlight reels after things wrap up to promote the next year’s event.  Every viewer is either a past attendee (a potential referral source) or a future attendee (a potential client.)

That makes it really powerful.

Second, there is not much competition from other speakers.  I don’t know of other speakers who are spending time to create the perfect kind of relationship they’ll need with a videographer so they can appear in these videos.

It’s not that you ignore the videographer… but, well… sometimes you do.  Let’s face it, you’re busy talking with attendees and getting focused on your speech.

When you take the time to engage with the videographer and give them that perfectly formatted soundbite they’re craving, you’re immediately more memorable.

How to Score Pro-Level Video Footage for Free

When you position yourself to appear in these videos, you end up with professional-looking videos at absolutely rock-bottom prices.  Zero dollars in fact!

There’s usually great editing and music to make you look really good at the work you do.  You look so good because you’re giving the videographer what they need to make their own work look good.

Plus, when you appear in one of these event promo videos, you benefit from an entire year of trusted, endorsed distribution.

Every time someone researches that event, they’ll see your endorsement on the highlight reel.  It’s great exposure.

The Hidden Power of Videographer Relationships

Finally, this strategy is at the top of my list because of the relationships you can earn with the videographers.  Remember, these people work a LOT of events all year round.

For instance, Shaun Clearie, the editor of my own videos was actually someone I met at an event.  Each year, Shaun goes to probably a hundred events.

When you build one relationship, you gain access to multiple events.  I know, for instance, that Shaun has referred me to other event organizers who have asked him for recommendations on speakers. (Thanks, Shaun!)

One videographer can be a great recurring marketing partner across your entire speaking portfolio.
