I Spent $99 to Earn 19 Leads… Was It Worth It?

📖
If you read Part 1 of this article, you learned the basics of MarketAPeel - an email introduction service that promised me leads for $99/month. Now, let’s see if it was worth it…

Would you pay $99 to earn 19 lukewarm intros with ready-to-hire event organizers?

I did.

It was part of our latest Worth It or Walk Away experiment – where we test those promotional offers speakers so often receive.  You know the ones I mean…

“Get leads… get noticed… get hired… all for just $XXX.”

This particular offer was from the MarketAPeel Agency.  It’s run by Shannon Peel (love the clever name!), and it connects speakers with event planners who have upcoming events.

I was optimistic (but skeptical) after plopping down the $99 bucks it takes to sign up.  After all, 19 lukewarm leads each month sounds awesome.

Hmm… “excited, but dubious” might be a better description.

The key question I had was this...

“Were the leads going to be any good?”

Now, before I go any further, let’s add in that little disclaimer that always makes Rachael happy:

This is just my experience. Obviously, if you sign up for this program (or have already signed up), your results may vary. So, take all of my thoughts below with a proverbial grain of salt.

This service has worked well for other speakers.  But did it work well for me?

Let’s start by looking at the numbers…

The Results of My 4-Week Campaign

After providing my information, MarketAPeel promised to send my Digital Doppelgänger(s) speech description to 1,000 event organizers on Shannon’s personal Rolodex over the course of a four-week campaign.

At the end of the month, I received a breakdown of the campaign results.

And guess what? She actually over-delivered.

MarketAPeel sent out 1,050 emails (50 more than was promised).  There were 50 bounced emails so my info still made it into the inboxes of 1,000 prospects. Then, there were 521 opens with 19 people who opened the email clicking on the link inside to view my website.

That comes out to a $5.26 cost per click (not too shabby!)

Then, I got a detailed report with contact information and some charts that gave me information on every event organizer who clicked on my link.

The charts were fine, but I immediately honed in on the detailed contact information.

“Who were these people?  Were they high quality leads?”
